Copywriting Services London

The capital’s premier copywriting agency

In London, copywriters aren’t hard to find. But great ones? That’s a different (beautifully worded) story.

Based in the heart of the capital, a stone’s throw from The National Gallery and a short walk from the river, On Top of The Word chooses its writers with great care.

We do this because we’re all about results – which we can only help you achieve with the right team.

Why use a London copywriting agency?

People need copywriters for a huge variety of writing projects – regardless of the size, location or ambitions of their business.

This could mean building a new website from scratch, perfecting your existing pages, or compiling an informative newsletter or blog to promote your business.

If you want expert advice about how your brand should sound, slogans for press or online advertising, or a voiceover script for a corporate audio clip or video, we can help.

If you haven’t seen exactly what you’re looking for here, just get in touch and we’ll either help you ourselves, or put you in touch with someone who will be better placed to – either way, the answer will be yes.

We’ll solve your problem and get you results, fast. Which is, after all, what every business wants.

How we find our writers

We get asked this a lot (because they’re great) but the answer isn’t as linear as you might imagine.

Some of them we know of old, through publishing (and more specifically magazines, across the B2B and B2C sectors). Others caught our collective eye by doing a brilliant job elsewhere, and we lured them here with the promise of a great working environment, a fantastic attitude to work/life balance, and occasional surprise edible treats that go down like a proverbial house on fire.

The more traditional recruitment avenues have also come in handy for us though – a veritable clutch of writers have arrived in our inboxes and on our radars over the years through social media adverts and posts – so that definitely works for us too.

Copywriting service London describes itself as the go to copywriting agency

What makes a good writer?

For us, the most important quality, by a country mile (and a hop, skip and jump) is flair. Which, admittedly, is somewhat intangible. And, we don’t mind telling you, it’s difficult to find.

Because being able to write isn’t enough. Not by a long way. Having great grammar and being able to spell isn’t where it’s at either – you can get Grammarly to do that for you.

Flair is somewhat more elusive. It’s writing in a particular tone of voice, consistently and unfailingly – and then being able to switch it up and do the same thing for a completely different client, in an entirely different industry, with a totally different target audience, and nailing it… every single time.

And it’s actually even more than that. Because tone of voice isn’t the benchmark, it’s just the beginning. That’s where you start (if you know what you’re doing, anyway).

Flair, on the other hand, is being memorable – which might mean clever, it might mean succinct, it might mean informative or it might even mean witty.

If it connects, engages and resonates, then it’s done its job and it will (not as a standalone piece, but as part of a wider content strategy) produce results.

And oh, do we love results.

That’s what gets us out of bed in the morning, it’s what keeps our clients happy, and it’s what means they come back for more and recommend us to their associates. Which they (joyously) do.

Things to think about before we speak for the first time

It should be noted that none of this is compulsory and you don’t have to have the answers to these questions before we speak. These are here as a guide, to help you think about what exactly it is you need, which historically some of our clients have found beneficial.

Putting together a creative brief is crucial to your project’s success – but don’t worry, that’s for us to do, not you – unless you particularly want to, of course.

What we’ll talk about

What brings you to us?

Not as in who told you about our brilliance, but as in what do you actually want to achieve? Finishing a project in a hurry? Catering to the needs of a particularly demanding client? More leads?

When do you want to start?

Your project might begin in a few weeks (or months) or it might start tomorrow, or even today. All of those instances are absolutely fine, as long as you communicate your timeline with us as fas in advance as you’re able (which sometimes, we appreciate, isn’t far in advance at all, and that’s ok).

When do you need the copy completed?

Or, in journalism terms (because that’s where a few of us started out) what’s the deadline? And consider that it may be that you want to review the copy for a week or so ahead of when you actually need it to go live, so think of your eventual deadline, and then take a few weeks off it. This will give you time to request any necessary additions of amends.

Don’t rush or stress yourself unnecessarily – it’s important that we get it right for you, time and again.

Our approach

We start with a conversation.
Obvious? Perhaps. Vital? Absolutely.

We want to know how we can be as much help as we possibly can, identify your goals and help you smash them. Which, yes, sounds a little cliché, but it’s a well-trodden path for a reason.

Having worked with many of the Europe’s leading brand agencies, we understand the vital importance of language’s contribution to brand positioning.

This could mean implementing a rejuvenated tone of voice, coming up with a simply brilliant slogan or idea for an advertising campaign, or putting together an ‘unputdownable’, compelling read that captures its target market’s attention from the headline right through to the ‘call to action’ (also known as a CTA).

We are very familiar with the differing demands and constraints of the many (and ever-increasing) formats and platforms that content comes on these days, so nailing the nuances is no issue.

What works on TikTok is not going to wash in an annual report, and we’re equally great at producing both.

How our clients benefit from the way we do things

Results

We know, broken record, but seriously – it’s all about results.

With the right copy, tailored to your very specific target audience and consistent in every piece of writing that comes out of your business, you will achieve more. And that’s not only an understatement, but a fact.

Great writing connects, engages and resonates.

It persuades, motivates, and makes its points clearly.

…We think you get the point. It gets the job done.

Quality

Business writing – whether it’s about data, tech or even cardboard boxes – doesn’t have to be boring. In fact, it shouldn’t be. If it is, it will be ignored – and what’s the point in that?

Just because you’re speaking to a business audience, doesn’t mean you can’t be entertaining, clever, memorable, witty even.

Make your content interesting to read by having it professionally written.

The Edge

No, not the Irish musician and singer-songwriter, best known as a pivotal member of U2, the edge over your competitors. The point of difference, if you will.

Time

You’re not writers, we are. This isn’t your area of expertise, it’s ours. Why do something that takes time away from your business (and/or life) that could be done more quickly, and better?

That question isn’t rhetorical – why would you do that? It doesn’t make sense.

Money

Great writing will make you money. How? It will help you connect, engage and resonate with the right people. The right people being your idea clients – who aren’t just the ones who really want to work with you, they’re the ones who see the value and brilliance in what you do, and are willing to pay for it.

Generate sales, sure, but from the right people. It’ll not only be more profitable that way, it’ll be infinitely more enjoyable.

Perspective

You are too close to your business to write subjectively about it. Fact. We’re looking at it from the perspective of the client, which is who you need to be speaking to. Ours is a fresh point of view that you can use to your advantage.

Stress

Having a stab at something you’re not great at and/or don’t actually have the time to do is not enjoyable by any stretch of the imagination.

Content that gets results

We create content that tells your clients exactly what they need to know, in exactly the way you want it to be said.

Whether you have a question, need some help or just want to shoot the breeze, this is how you do it.
